TikTok Ads Manager will not accept a campaign daily budget under $50 or an ad group daily budget under $20 — these are enforced limits in the platform's own budget documentation, with lifetime budgets required to average the same floor. TikTok's own guidance also recommends higher daily ad-group budgets for web conversion campaigns in North America. Treat the minimums as what they are: the price of being present in the auction, not a viable test budget.
Why we will not quote you a CPM benchmark
Cost-per-thousand and cost-per-click vary by country, season, vertical, objective, and — more than anything — creative quality. Published "average TikTok CPM" figures are averages across all of those at once, which makes them precise-sounding and useless for planning. In practice the spread between a fatigued creative and a fresh native one in the same account, same week, is larger than the spread between most published benchmarks. Budget planning built on your own conversion economics survives contact with the auction; benchmark planning does not.
How to size a test budget that actually concludes
Start from your allowable acquisition cost — what a customer or install is worth paying for.
Give each ad group enough daily budget to buy multiple conversions per day at that cost; below that, learning is noise.
Fund three creative angles for two weeks rather than six angles for five days — fatigue data is part of the answer.
Reserve budget for the second round. The first round's job is to find the hook worth scaling; ending the test broke and hookless is the standard failure.
Where the money actually leaks
In audits, the waste is rarely the auction price. It is unverified tracking (optimizing toward events that double-fire or never fire), learning resets from daily budget fiddling, fatigued creative left running because nobody owns the refresh cadence, and campaign structures too complex to diagnose. Every one of those is fixable before spending another dollar, which is why our setup service runs before media buying, not after.
TikTok ads cost FAQ
How much do TikTok ads cost per day?
TikTok Ads Manager enforces minimums: $50 per day at the campaign level and $20 per day at the ad group level, per TikTok's own budget documentation. That is the floor, not a recommendation — a single ad group at $20/day generally gathers conversion data too slowly to exit learning phase efficiently. What a click or conversion costs on top of that depends on your market, creative, and objective, which is why we do not publish CPM benchmarks: any specific number would be wrong for most readers.
What budget do I need to start TikTok ads properly?
Enough to run a structured creative test to a conclusion, not just to be present. Work backward from your conversion: if a purchase costs you $30 to acquire on other channels, an ad group needs enough daily budget to buy several conversions a day or the algorithm learns from noise. For most DTC brands that means a test month is four figures, not hundreds. If that is out of range, spend nothing on ads and build organic instead — a starved campaign teaches you nothing and still costs money.
Why does my cost per result swing so much week to week?
Usually creative fatigue or learning-phase resets, not auction chaos. TikTok fatigues creative faster than Meta — the same audience sees your hook sooner — so cost per result climbing over 7–14 days with falling watch time is the normal decay curve, and the fix is a fresh hook, not a bid change. Editing targeting or budget too aggressively also resets learning, which shows up as a cost spike you caused.
Is an agency worth it at my spend level?
Below roughly $5k/month in ad spend, usually not — management fees eat the gains, which is why our media buying service sets that as a floor and why we tell smaller accounts to start with a setup engagement plus a consulting sprint instead. An agency earns its fee when spend is high enough that structured testing and reconciliation beat founder-run intuition by more than the fee.
